I. Forgive
A. Forgiveness is a choice
14Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: 15looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;
B. God will take care of the person who hurt you.
Romans 12:19-20 (NKJV) 19Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,†says the Lord. 20Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.â€

I. Example of the most difficult to forgive.
A. Peter Mark 14:66-72; Mark 16:7, John 21:1-9
B. Paul Acts 9:1
1 Timothy 1:15 (NKJV) This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
II. Why we don’t forgive ourselves.
A. Not accept God’s forgiveness
B. We think we know something about our sin.
C. We are performance based.
D. We think we are exempt.
E. Expect to sin again.
F. Confronted by the consequences of our sin.
G. Low self-esteem.
III. Steps to Self-forgiveness I John 1:8,9,10
A. Admit to God I am guilty.
B. Confess you have not forgiven yourself.
C. Confess I am in emotional bondage.
D. Ask God to forgive you.
